    My face is twisted.

    Facial palsy(facial nerve palsy) refers to a state in which facial nerves are paralyzed from diverse causes, leading to numb facial senses or inability to control the facial muscles. The symptom usually appears on one side of the face, but there are cases in which the whole face is paralyzed. When the palsy is caused by damage in the 7th brain nerve, which controls facial nerves, it is called peripheral type of facial palsy. When it is caused by overall brain damage such as stroke, it is called central type of facial palsy.

    Causes

    • Low immunity caused by overwork, excessive cold, or common cold, or facial nerve damage caused by viruses

    • Chickenpox aftereffect for children/Herpes Zoster aftereffect for adults

    • Pressure on facial nerves, caused by expanded blood vessels or structural abnormality

    • Stroke aftereffect

    • Secondary symptoms of chronic diseases

    Symptoms

    • Numb face, unable to make wrinkles in the forehead
    • Unable to close one’s eyes completely
    • Twisted mouth, spilling or sticking food when eating
    • Different sound volume in each side of the face, or the food tastes different in the left and right part of the mouth
    • Neuralgia in the back of the head or ears
    • Excessive tears
